Chipotles were a staple in Bryan’s diet in Mexico because it is used to flavor a variety of dishes. However, in Mexico, the chipotles would come either fresh or dehydrated without anything added to them (Urias, 2020). This would cost 32.30 Mexican pesos, or USD $1.62 (La Comer, 2020).
Aside from chipotle and spices, this product of Mexico has added sugar and soybean oil. It costs $1.75 at Aldi. |
Tortillas in the United States are most commonly made of white flour, and they are not made fresh or with corn flour like in the tortillería in Mexico City (Urias, 2020).
These corn tortillas were one of the two options at Publix. This bag was $1.50. Aside from corn, they have added preservatives. In Mexico City, corn tortillas were baked fresh and you buy them while they are still warm, similar to how we buy bread from a bakery in the grocery store (Urias, 2020). These fresh corn tortillas would be $0.61 in the Mexican supermarket (La Comer, 2020). |
